A Roommate Weekend

She’s the gem!

I have previously mentioned about how much I truly appreciate my dear roommate. When I prayed that God would send me the roommate I needed, I never expected such a treasure. We appreciate each member of the team and are so thankful for the ones that were handpicked to be the Ghana Fall 2019 group, but we are just a little extra thankful that we got to be partners. This week I had to miss a few days of clinical due to illness and Kandace made me eggs and tomatoes after she had had a crazy day. She came with me to a chiropractor appointment and sat in 2-hour traffic when she was tired and had other commitments. And I could keep on going, but her love for Jesus and her sensitivity to His Word is what has been my favourite and what has kept me going through challenging times.

Just hanging out beside a 600-year old silk cotton tree.

We do a lot of things together and you’ll see us going for walks, chatting together about our days and experiences, praying together, laughing uncontrollably, and growing in the Lord according to His will. She’s exactly what I needed: someone to show me how to love others better, someone to kindly show where I need to change my attitude, someone who’ll break into prayer without hesitation, and just all around someone who has taught me to smile more.

She models well. All I can do is laugh.

Saturday was supposed to be one of adventuring with other great friends of ours that we greatly appreciate, but situations changed and I was still feeling a little under-the-weather, so we decided to make it a Kandace and Lena weekend. It consisted of exploring Aburi Botanical Gardens (and bribing the Uber driver with money so that we wouldn’t be stranded at the Gardens), finding a Second Cup and enjoying coffee, buying matching shirts from the clearance shelf, and savouring the best Gelato ice cream! Oh, and when we had cleaned our room from the week, we had an adventurous time watching Beauty and the Beast (the adventure mentioned here is closely linked to WiFi connectivity).

Just another African ant hill.
Rare rubber tree
The fresh air, mingled with all the green-covered trees and chirping birds was such a place of retreat.
I was a little excited for my London fog.

Today we woke up early to attend the Legon Interdenominational Church here on campus. It was such a special time of fellowship, of worship, prayer, and Bible Study and we found ourselves quite refreshed. The rest of the day was spent in introvert fashion. Tomorrow starts another week of clinical, both in antenatal clinic and the outpatient department.

All that to say, take time to appreciate the people around you. They are exactly what you need right now!

P. S. There are blog posts pending from the past two weeks that will come out soon! Sorry for the random non-chronological writing!
